Judy Freed's enchanting voice is only one reason to love this CD. Two others are her fresh melodies and lyrics that are by turns deeply moving and light-hearted. “Men with Guns” tells the true story of an armed apartment-invasion robbery, while “New Age State of Mind” and “Box 6052” are humourous sendups of politically correct new-ageism and the awkward yet popular emotional minefield of the Personals Ads.
But perhaps one of the strongest pieces is her gentle yet fiercely gay-positive ballad “Through the Night,” which straightforwardly defends love between any two persons of any gender.
